PRODUCT LAB PODCAST EPISODE #006

In this podcast episode, we sit down with Ely Santos of Metavertising, an expert in advertising and marketing in the metaverse. As Apple prepares to launch its new AR/VR headset, the metaverse is gaining even more attention. Ely shares his insights on the current state of advertising in the metaverse and the challenges and opportunities that brands will face in this new space, including the potential for immersive and interactive experiences that can engage audiences in new & novel ways. We also discuss the importance of authenticity and creativity in advertising in the metaverse, highlighting the need for brands to stand out in this emerging field.

3 MAJOR KEYS FOR FOUNDERS

1/ Elements of a successful marketing campaign in the Metaverse

In the realm of Web3, traditional marketing approaches that merely "talk at" consumers no longer work. Instead, companies must adopt an immersive, outside-the-box mindset that prioritizes understanding the fundamentals of their customers' thoughts and desires. While tools can aid in this understanding, marketers must also think beyond physical activations and consider how AR/VR can allow customers to experience products in new and engaging ways. Founders must embrace creativity in order to fully harness the potential of AR/VR marketing.

2/ Pulling on the emotional strings

Ely talks about how Web 2.0 had us seeing ads in our feeds and how Web3 will be about experiences and storytelling. "What better way to making someone feel something than telling them a story and putting them at the middle of the story". Using products such as the Meta Quest 2 or the rumoured upcoming Apple Headset, founders will need to find creative ways of creating stories to draw on the emotional strings of the consumers.

3/ Is your Startup Metaverse ready? When it comes to working with Ely and his team he states. "The best clients to work with are those who have an understanding of what they want to achieve and why they are using a certain medium to achieve their objectives, regardless of whether they are a big brand or a small business." Having a clear objective in mind is key, as fun as the Metaverse seems to be it's still run like a business and needs clear-cut goals.

Get ready to ENTER THE MATRIX.... kinda... Apple is rumoured to FINALLY unveil their AR/VR mixed reality headset, at WWDC 2023. With rumours of advanced display technology, this headset is set to compete with the big boys of VR headsets like the Meta Quest 2 and PSVR 2. Brace yourselves for an epic AR adventure, as Apple takes us on a journey to a new dimension! Who needs the blue pill when you can have an Apple headset?" 🐇

Possible Release Date

Apple is reportedly hard at work developing not one, but two AR/VR devices, including a mixed-reality headset that is set to be released in 2023. The company's headset has faced numerous setbacks, with rumoured original plans to launch in 2022 being derailed by technical challenges. However, Apple is now expected to debut the wearable at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in 2023, giving developers a glimpse of its innovative new rumoured operating system: RealityOS.

Looking further down the road, a more affordable version of the headset could hit the market in 2024 or 2025, with additional second-generation models likely following. While the delays may be frustrating for fans of the company, they serve as a testament to Apple's commitment to delivering a high-quality product that meets customer expectations. According to various sources, Apple's upcoming AR/VR mixed reality headset is intended primarily for developers and professionals to create augmented reality applications. The device is rumoured to be priced between $3,000 and "several thousand dollars," which may limit its consumer appeal.

Mixed Reality

The new headset could offer a wide range of possibilities for users who are interested in incorporating both augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies, also known as mixed reality. This cutting-edge technology enables users to seamlessly switch between the virtual and physical worlds, providing a truly immersive experience. This merger of physical and digital objects creates new environments where both can be viewed and interacted with together. While the exact experiences that the headset will provide are not yet known, we can expect to see immersive games, more interactive FaceTime and chat experiences, and new learning tools. Additionally, mixed reality technology offers wider potential applications beyond gaming, such as for educational or training purposes. The new headset could offer startup founders a range of possibilities for enhancing their business operations.

Now combo this with the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) which is specifically designed to handle tasks related to artificial intelligence and machine learning. By using an NPU, the headset could potentially process complex visual and audio data much faster and more accurately, providing users with a truly immersive mixed-reality experience. This could potentially unlock a bevy of features paired up with Chatgpt and other A.I tools.

Rumoured Specs

Get ready to feel the power! According to reports, Apple's VR headset is going to need more juice than a thirsty time-travelling Delorean. No, you won't need a flux capacitor but rather It will need a 96W MacBook Pro charger. And if that's not enough, an external battery pack may also be required to keep the headset going for more than two hours. The headset will also come with the new M2 chip, making it a powerhouse.

Apple's rumoured VR/AR headset will feature 12 tracking cameras that provide information to two 8K Liquid Retina displays positioned in front of the user's eyes. Additionally, the headset is said to include LiDAR sensors for more accurate spatial mapping. However, Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) contradicted this report, stating that Sony is developing 4K displays with a 4000 x 4000 resolution and a 1.4-inch diagonal for Apple's headset. This would be the equivalent of watching a screen that is 30ft x 30ft. While DSCC did acknowledge that LiDAR is still a possibility, there has been no confirmation of its inclusion. LiDAR is a technology that utilizes lasers to measure distance, which can accurately map out a space for AR applications. Can't wait to see which direction Apple chooses to go when it comes to the screen resolution.
